The Hanover Police Services Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. George Hebblethwaite to the position of Deputy Chief with the Hanover Police Service. The Board has signed a three-year contract with Deputy Chief Hebblethwaite, which will commence in mid-November 2018.
Deputy Chief Hebblethwaite is not new to the Hanover Police Service. Following his retirement from a 33-year career with the O.P.P., Deputy Chief Hebblethwaite served as a part-time Constable with the Hanover Police Service from 2011 to 2014. Following his time in Hanover, he returned to school and became a licensed paralegal accepting an appointment by the Regional Municipality of Waterloo as a Provincial Offences Prosecutor.
The new Deputy Chief comes to Hanover with extensive experience from his impressive career in Policing. While with the O.P.P., Deputy Chief Hebblethwaite served in 7 different communities from remote locations in Northern Ontario to the Greater Toronto Area. During this time, he held several supervisory and mid-management roles with numerous promotions and ever-increasing roles and responsibilities. One noteworthy assignment while with the O.P.P. was his deployment with the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo where he commanded a police station serving a population of 83,000 in a volatile post-conflict community.
“Hanover has an excellent Police Service and with this new appointment it will be even better” said Board Chair Don Smith. “The Board welcomes George Hebblethwaite to the Hanover Police Service and we look forward to working with him in his new role as Deputy Chief” he continued.
With the new appointment of a Deputy Chief, the Board will be phasing out the position of Police Inspector from the Service by year’s end.
