An investigation into a collision on 10th Street East last evening resulted in a 62 year old Southampton man being charged with operating his vehicle when his blood alcohol concentration exceeded 80 milligrams.
At approximately 6:15 p.m. the accused was operating his 1997 Toyota sedan west bound in the 700 block of 10th Street East when he struck the rear of another vehicle which was stopped at the red light at 7th Avenue East.
The investigation revealed that the accused had consumed alcohol prior to driving. He was transported to hospital by ambulance for examination. A Qualified Breath Technician followed along for the ride in the ambulance and breath tests were conducted at the hospital resulting in reading of more than double the legal limit.
There were no injuries reported by the other driver and the accused’s injuries were determined to be minor. The suspect had his licence suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. He will appear in court on November 29th, 2018 charged with operating a motor vehicle with a blood concentration above 80 milligrams.
