On Friday January 4th, 2019 at approximately 2:50 p.m. officers arrived in the area of 800 block of 1st Avenue West, Owen Sound to investigate a complaint of two males asleep in a vehicle. The officers observed the driver slumped over the steering wheel and the passenger slumped forward in the passenger front seat. The 2014 Dodge Caravan was also found to be running and in gear.
The officers were able to get the driver out of the vehicle who was determined to be in an impaired state. Located on the driver’s seat officers found a substance believed to be Fentanyl. The 34 year old driver identified as Chad Dykstra of Southampton was arrested without incident and transported to the Owen Sound Police Service. Dykstra was also found to be in possession of “brass knuckles” which is a prohibited weapon as defined by the Criminal Code.
Dykstra was held in custody on the charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired, Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, and Failing to Comply with Conditions of his previous Undertaking. Saturday morning Dykstra was released from custody on his own recognizance during bail court proceedings with took place out of the London Court. He is to appear next in the Owen Sound Court on the 17th of January 2019.
