Driving on a closed road leads to additional charges.
On January 31, 2019 at approximately 10:39 a.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a motor vehicle on Garafraxa Street in the Township of Chatsworth after it was observed driving past a "Road Closure" sign.
The lone driver of the vehicle, who was unable to produce his driver's licence and vehicle particulars, identified himself verbally to the officer. The driver used his cell phone to contact a female party for assistance. Police spoke with the female at which time it was discovered that the driver had used a name other than his and was on a court order not to communicate with her.
As a result of the investigation, the driver, a 31-year old Hamilton man, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Drive on Closed Highway, under the Highway Traffic Act
- Driving While Under Suspension, under the Highway Traffic Act
- Adult Personation with Intent to Resist Arrest, under the Criminal Code
- Fail to Comply with an Undertaking, under the Criminal Code
He is scheduled to attend court in Owen Sound on February 28, 2019 to address the charges.
