On March 9, 2019 at approximately 10:00 p.m., a Bruce Peninsula Ontario Provincial Police officer was on Indian Acres Road in the Township of Georgian Bluffs to check on the well-being of a resident when he observed a pick-up truck pull into a laneway at the residence he was attending. The driver opened the door, stumbled out of the truck falling onto the ground. The officer approached the male who showed signs of extreme intoxication. The male was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
While placing him in the cruiser, another vehicle pulled up to the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet SUV appeared startled and began to reverse his vehicle. The officer directed him to stop, which he did. The officer determined that the driver had been drinking alcohol and a roadside breath test into an approved screening device was given which registered a "fail". He, too, was arrested and, with the assistance of a Grey County OPP officer, was transported to the Bruce Peninsula OPP Detachment for breath tests.
Both drivers failed the breath tests and as a result were charged.
53-year old Dennis Shular of the Township of Georgian Bluffs was charged with Operation While Impaired and Over 80 mg.
71-year old Paul Pickering of the Township of Georgian Bluffs was charged with Over 80 mg.
Both men are to appear in court in Owen Sound on April 4, 2019.
