A large fire as a result of burning a couch on a rural property in the Township of Georgian Bluffs resulted in by-law charges against the property owner.
On March 29, 2019 at approximately 11:23 p.m. a Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was patrolling Highway 21 in the Township of Georgian Bluffs when a large fire was observed on a rural property. Upon investigating the source of the fire, it was found that a couch along with other debris was being burned by the homeowner.
The Inter-Township Fire Department was called to extinguish the fire which was approximately 12 feet in diameter and 15 feet high.
A 29-year old male was charged under the Township of Georgian Bluffs By-Law for Burn Unacceptable Materials and for Fail to Have Equipment and Resources Available at Burning Site. Each offence holds a total set fine of $125.00.
Residents are urged to contact their local municipality and or their local fire department for regulations governing large open burns.
