A driver provided a false ID to avoid arrest and is now facing multiple charges.

On May 5, 2019 at approximately 8:14 p.m., a member of the Grey-Bruce Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police stopped a vehicle on Highway 6 in the Town of South Bruce Peninsula for having an expired permit displayed.

The driver of the vehicle identified himself with a British Columbia driver's licence. The officer noted that the photo on the licence did not compare to the driver. Further investigation revealed that the driver fraudulently identified himself in an attempt to avoid arrest due to his Ontario driver's licence being suspended.

A 43-year old  of Shelburne, Ontario was charged with the following offences:

- Identity Fraud, Personation with Intent, Criminal Code
- Driving While Under Suspension (x2), Highway Traffic Act
- Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit, Highway Traffic Act
- Have Lighted Tobacco in Motor Vehicle While Another Person Less than 16 Years Old Present, Smoke Free Ontario Act.

In addition to the above offences, he was issued a 3-day Warn Range driver's licence suspension. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

A court date of June 6, 2019 in Owen Sound has been set.

UPDATE: All charges have been dropped.
