OSPS logoOn Wednesday September 4th 2019 just before 7:30pm, a collision occurred at the intersection of 10th Street West and 8th Ave West, Owen Sound. Members of the Owen Sound Police Service attended as did Grey County Paramedic Services and the Owen Sound Fire Service.

A Kirkland Lake man operating a Toyota pick-up truck failed to stop for a red light and struck a Volkswagen car. The impact caused the car to deploy all of its airbags. Both drivers were checked by paramedics and sustained no injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

As a result of the investigation a road side breath test was conducted in which the 36 year old driver from Kirkland Lake failed. The man was arrested and later provided samples of breath into an approved instrument with the samples registering over twice the legal limit. The driver was charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus), under the Criminal Code, Red Light Fail to Stop under The Highway Traffic Act and Driving a Motor Vehicle With an Open Container of Liquor under the Liquor Licence Act.

The driver’s motor vehicle has been impounded for 7 days and his Driver’s Licence immediately suspended for 90 days. The man will appear in Owen Sound Court September 12, 2019 in order to speak to the charges.
