On Tuesday, November 19th, 2019, an attempted child abduction occurred at a medical clinic in Hanover.

At about 2:15 p.m., a 6-month old infant in a car-seat carrier was temporarily taken from the mother’s care in the waiting area. The mother and others quickly intervened and stopped the abduction. Police arrived within minutes and took the suspect into custody after a brief struggle. “The outcome here could have been much worse but for the swift action of everyone involved. Thankfully the infant was not injured.”

This serious matter remains under investigation and while a number of persons have been interviewed thus far, Police would like to speak with anyone else that may have witnessed this crime and ask that they contact the Hanover Police Service at 519.364.2411.

A 30-year-old woman of no fixed address is charged with “Attempted Abduction of a Child Under 14 years”. She has been remanded into custody following a bail hearing November 20th in Walkerton.
