The Owen Sound Police were alerted early Saturday morning to a male attempting to break in to the change compartment of a coin operated vacuum at the Buffy’s Car Wash, located at 1820 20th Street East, Owen Sound. An officer arrived on scene just before 8:00 a.m. finding the culprit in the act.
The Owen Sound man was also found to be in possession of a Ford F250 pick up truck that had been stolen from the Municipality of Meaford the day prior.
As the officer arrested the male party a brief struggle ensued with the culprit then successfully fleeing the immediate area on foot. As responding officers arrived on scene to assist, a wooded area to the north east of the car wash was quickly secured. This perimeter was held as the suspect took to hiding in the rough terrain. As the Owen Sound Police maintained the perimeter the OPP Canine Unit along with two members of the OPP ERT arrived on scene to assist in the search. The OPP Canine was successful in locating the suspect who was taken into police custody at approximately 9:20 a.m.
The 30-year-old is now facing a list of criminal charges. He has been held in custody and will be presented before WASH (Weekend And Statutory Holiday) Court Sunday morning. Neither the officer or the suspect was injured during the altercation.
