Between June 19th and June 21st, 2020, 17 motorists were charged with stunt driving - 50km/h or more over the posted speed limit - in Grey and Bruce on Highways 6 and 10 south of Owen Sound and Highway 6 on the Bruce Peninsula. The one stopped at Sunny Valley Road was driving 185 km/hr. An 18th was stopped and charged on Bruce Road 3.
All of the drivers were men, most between the ages of 18 and 30 and the oldest was 51. All were stopped in 80 km/hr zones, in cars, SUVs, electric cars and pick-up trucks, travelling between 135 and 185 km/hr.en,
All but one of the men were from outside the region - from as far as Montreal, around southwestern Ontario and half from the GTA.
A 40 year old from Owen Sound in a pick up truck was among those charged, driving 165 in South Bruce Peninsula. All of the drivers were issued a 7 day drivers licence suspension and their vehicles were towed and impounded for 7 days.
The Grey-Bruce OPP want to remind motorists that excessive speed in one of the leading causes of deaths on our highways. Please slow down and be safe.
