The Owen Sound Police Service along with the Owen Sound Fire Department, Inter Township Fire Department and Grey County Paramedics, attended together to a residential house fire that happened at approximately 3:00 p.m. today at 8th Ave East and 8th Street East.

Neighbours first reported seeing smoke and after only a few minutes, the entire rear of the home was engulfed in flames. A quick acting neighbour realized the owners were not home and attended to open the front door, retrieving the family’s dog who was still inside.

Emergency crews arrived within minutes of 911 being called.

The fire was put out by the Owen Sound Fire Department and there were no injuries as a result of the incident. The home sustained heavy damage and a neighbouring residence had further damage to their siding due to the extreme heat and flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by members of the Owen Sound Fire Department.
