The Grand Valley Midget Hitmen Fastball team won gold this past weekend at the U18 Boys Western Canadian Fastpitch Championships in Lloydminster AB.

Three members of the Grand Valley team who are local to Owen Sound are Jordan Baumber (red jersey) from Owen sound played 1B and batted .476 in the tournament.  Connor Long (#4) from Meaford played 2B and batted .526 with a HR.  Matt Chegahno (red bat) from Wiarton played LF and batted .411 with a HR. 

The tournament saw Grand Valley going 4-1 in the Round Robin with wins against the Conquest SK Coyotes (15-2) , Cross Lake MB Pirates (3-1), Cloverdale BC Rockies (15-4) , Shellbrook SK Rangers (11-2) and a loss against the Irma AB Tigers 8-5. With a13-1 win against Conquest in the Semi Final game Grand Valley then met up with Irma in the Final. It was close early, Grand Valley was up 1-0 after 2 but then RBI singles by Jordan Baumber and Connor Long followed by a Grand Slam by Michael Fuller in the bottom of the 3rd capped a 7 run rally and put Grand Valley on top for good with the game ending 9-0 earning GV the gold medal. Clayton Robinson got the win on the mound, his 4th of the tournament one of which was a one hitter. Luke Zettel earned 2 pitching wins for Grand Valley as well. Fuller, Brandon Richardson and Connor Weishar each homered twice for GV on the weekend while Connor Long and Matt Chegahno each homered once.
