attack awardsThe Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce the signing of 2017 1st Round Draft pick Mitchell Russell, who signed his Standard Player Agreement on Sunday, June 4 at the team's end of season Awards BBQ. Prior to the announcement, Russell was presented with the Attack's Ray McKelvie Award, presented annually to the team's 1st round pick in the most draft.

Russell, a centreman out of Barrie, Ont., was drafted 20th overall by the Owen Sound Attack in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection.

The 6'0, 185 lbs forward suited up in 33 games for the Barrie Colts in 2016-17, scoring 29 goals and adding 19 assists for an impressive 48 points.

Described by Attack General Manager Dale DeGray as a "high end skill player that puts his abilities to use in all spots of the ice," Russell will join his new teammates at training camp in the fall as the Attack prepare for the 2017-18 season.

DeGray said the signing of Russell will only help add to the high end offensive talent the team possesses.

"Signing Mitchell is a phenomenal step for the organization," DeGray said, adding "we're thrilled to have he and his family here for the Awards BBQ, and we're excited to bring Mitchell into our family. We're excited to see what he can do on the ice in the fall."

More information on the 2016-17 Awards BBQ will be available at www.attackhockey.com upon the completion of the awards ceremony.
