The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce they have selected 18 year old Belorussian forward Vasili Filyayev with the 55th overall pick in the 2017 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
Filyayev, a 6'3 centreman out of Zhlobin, Belarus, spent the 2016-17 season with the Belorussian National Team, playing at both the U18 and U20 levels.
"We're very excited to get a player of Vasili's calibre this late in the 1st round of the Import Draft," Attack General Manager Dale DeGray said.
"He's a big body who is a presence down the middle of the ice and combines a high level of skill with great skating to make an impact on the game."
DeGray also compared to him to current Attack forward, and recent Philadelphia Flyers' draft choice Maksim Sushko, a fellow native of Belarus.
In 51 games with Team Belarus at the U18 and U20 levels, Vasili scored 13 goals while adding 23 assists for a total of 36 points. Most recently, Vasili suited up for Belarus at the 2017 IIHF U18 World Championships where he skated in all seven games for his team.
Highlights of Vasili from that tournament can be found HERE.
The Attack would like to welcome Vasili and his family to the organization.
