Starting July 31, 4 local athletes will be competing at the Special Olympics 2018 Antigonish Summer Games taking place in Nova Scotia.
Jess Belrose, AJ Brand, Jonathan Wardrop and Jamie-Lee Ward will be competing in 4-5 events each along side approximately 60 other swimmers.
The competition itself is 4 days long with closing ceremonies happening on August 4.
The athletes are excited for the challenge as they train and prepare at the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce with their coach Dianne Speed.
13 athletes from the Owen Sound Special Olympics Swim Team participated in the Provincial Games 2 years ago and now with 4 athletes going to Nationals, Dianne Speed couldn't be more proud. "I am very excited to watch these athletes compete, they have worked so hard to get where they are today. As a coach, I couldn't be more proud" says Speed.
