ultimate frisbeeMembers of Owen Sound Ultimate Frisbee and Port Elgin Ultimate Frisbee competed in the Stall Fall tournament in Guelph on Sept. 15th and 16th under the team name of Misfits. The co-ed, 7 on 7 tournament included teams from across Ontario.

The weather was quite hot, but a good time was had by all. The defencive play of the tournament for the Misfits was a rare Callahan or end-zone interception scored by Ben Brown. The offencive highlights included two hammers or curving overhand throws by Austin Robinson which were both caught by Rida Zainab to score points.

For those unfamiliar with the sport, ultimate is much like football. The object of the game is to move the disc down the field and score a point by catching it in the goal area or end zone. The main differences are that ultimate is a non-contact sport and players are not allowed to run with the disc. When the disc is caught, the player has to stop running, and has 10 seconds to throw it to a team mate.

Local interest in the sport has been growing recently. Owen Sound Ultimate Frisbee runs pick-up games on Mondays from 6:30-8pm (warm-up at 6pm) at Victoria Park, beside the YMCA, in Owen Sound. Beginners are welcome. The indoor season starts in November.
