It was a home ice win for the Owen Sound Attack last night as the organization won the Community Service Award at the annual Owen Sound Chamber of Commerce Awards. More than 300 people gathered last night at the Bayshore to celebrate Owen Sound's business success.
The Attack was one of six nominees for the Community Service Award, winning the Award for the first time in franchise history. Co-Owner Peter MacDermid was on hand to accept the award for the Attack.
"Our entire organization is very proud of this accomplishment.", stated Brent Fisher, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for the Attack. "From our Ownership Group right through to the players, everyone in the Attack organization recognizes the importance of having a strong presence in our Community. This community, the surrounding area and the people in it, make up who we are as a team and as an organization."
In the past year, the Owen Sound Attack helped to raise over $60,000 by partnering with the Canadian Cancer Society for Pink in the Rink and Bears in Blue. This past June, the Attack Ownership Group also pledged a $100,000.00 donation to the Grey-Bruce Hospital Foundation. While financial contributions and fundraising is vital to any community, the Attack also made countless community appearances over the past year, including over 20 visits during the School Year to area Schools to speak on nutrition, goal setting and determination. The Attack has also partnered with Bruce Power and their Right to Play program that assists Area Youth in Sports participation and also the Investors Group Attack Hunger campaign, which helps to raise thousands of pounds of food for the local food bank.
Fisher added, "while we receive the Community Service Award as an organization, to suggest that we have done this without the help of others is a huge understatement. We must extend our gratitude to our Corporate Partners, Local Charitable organizations, volunteers and of course, our passionate fans."
The Attack Ownership Group and staff wish to extend a sincere "Thank You" to the entire Owen Sound Chamber of Commerce for a wonderful evening and congratulations to all other winners and nominees.
