The Owen Sound 2 U13 Shute Optometry girls earned a spot in the semifinals after 2 losses and a do-or-die win at the Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse Provincials in Kitchener Waterloo.
Owen Sound first played to a 5-3 loss to Six Nations on Friday. Owen Sound goals went to Emma Cooper with 2 and Hailey Feltis with a single.
In their second game, Owen Sound lost 7-4 to Halton Hills 2. Owen Sound goals were scored by Hailey Feltis, Emma Pausner, Hannah Davies and Emma Cooper.
In their do-or-die quarterfinal, Owen Sound edged out Orillia 2 in a 6-5 victory. Hannah Davies notched 4 goals for Owen Sound with Emma Cooper adding a pair.
Goalie Mykah Harris played amazingly in all 3 games while the largely rookie team played great defence and really came together to earn this semifinal berth.
In the semifinals, Owen Sound again just missed the win, falling 3-2 to Oshawa 2. Hailey Feltis and Meadow Graham scored singles for Owen Sound
The Owen Sound 2 U13 Shute Optometry girls narrowly missed the bronze medal in C Division play at the Ontario Women’s Field Lacrosse Provincials in Kitchener Waterloo.
Owen Sound lost 4-3 to Halton Hills 2 in the bronze medal game. Owen Sound goals were scored by Emma Cooper, Megan Cowan and Hailey Feltis. Mykah Harris was outstanding in net.
It was an impressive season for this largely rookie squad. The team was proud to make it to the semifinals and to finish Provincials with such tight scores.
A huge thanks to our coaches Jeremy McCoubrey, Jeff Cooper and Richard Harris. Thanks also to Brittany Stephens for all her help with the girls and for being a great role model.
This team has introduced a new squad of players to the sport and brought a new group of families to the sidelines. It was a great season of lacrosse.
