Fifteen students - adults and children from age four- were at the first Tae Kwon Do class in Owen Sound, bending and stretching with varying degrees of success, but grinning along with Master Kim.
Master Jason Kim, son and student of Grand Master Joe Kim of Durham, Ontario, and Instructor Rick Thibodeau have opened KT Tae Kwon Do to bring this Olympic sport to Owen Sound. The Korean martial art emphasizes “courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and an indomitable spirit”. The experience and qualifications of Kim and Thibodeau will combine the traditional practice with opportunities for competition if the students wish.
For now the classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 until 7 in the drama room of St. Mary's High School until approvals for a new academy are complete. More information on their Facebook page.
