The Connor McDavid road show visited the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre Sunday, and the rock star of the Ontario Hockey League didn't disappoint the sellout crowd.
McDavid, expected to be the number one NHL draft pick this summer, notched a goal and four assists Sunday as the Otters hammered the Owen Sound Attack 7-3.
Attack rookie goalie Michael McNiven, projected as the sixth North American goaltender in the summer's draft, picked up what was only his fourth loss in fourteen starts.
It wasn't so much the quantity of shots for Erie (34) as the quality in what turned out to be many polished, prime scoring chances. The Otters have six players on their roster already drafted by the NHL, and McDavid and Dylan Strome are first round prospects this summer. The Attack also got themselves into penalty trouble, earning 33 penalty minutes to Erie's 26, and Erie converted on five of their chances.
Scoring for the Attack, who drew within two goals at one point, were Kyle Platzer, Zach Nastasiuk and Eric Bradford. Erie's Strome picked up four points on the night, and goalie Devin Williams picked up the win, stopping 16 of 19 shots.
Sunday's loss followed a 5-2 win for the Attack over the visiting Kingston Frontenacs. Attack defenceman Damir Sharipzyanov scored two goals, including an end-to-end highlight reel goal, where he split the defencemen and scored while sprawled out.
Goals also came from Ethan Szypula, Chris Bigras and Bradford. Jack Flinn earned the win in net, stopping 29 of 31 shots in net.
The Attack next host the Ice Dogs on Wednesday at 7 p.m, then hit the road for a game in Kitchener Friday.
