There was a distinctive buzz of anticipation in the room as the Owen Sound and Community Refugee Initiative sat down to its third meeting in as many months. Representatives from a dozen different groups from Hanover, Kilsyth, Meaford, Georgian Bluffs, Northern Bruce Peninsula and Owen Sound updated each other on "their families", the progress of fundraising, and the challenges they have already met or surmounted.
Sponsoring groups vary from a group of six neighbours in Georgian Bluffs who will likely be settling a family in Wiarton to a partnership between the Owen Sound Muslim Association and St. George's Anglican Church who have finished their fundraising and will be welcoming a Syrian family of six.
In Northern Bruce Peninsula, a broad coalition has formed across their small communities, and $16,000 has already been raised. In Hanover, two sponsoring groups have formed, and when one of them exceeded its fundraising target, its members decided

Statement from Deborah Barker, Executive Director
Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce
We are deeply saddened by the recent events in London Ontario where an 84-year-old woman has been charged in an attempted murder–suicide.
The woman is charged with giving her husband, who has dementia, an overdose of medication and then taking an overdose herself. Both survived.
We know that caregivers and family members who have a loved one with dementia can face levels of stress that seem overwhelming. It is important to know that help is available and people need not feel isolated or alone.
The Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce has a staff of trained, professional counsellors who are experienced at working individuals with dementia and with their family members and caregivers.
Help is as close as our telephone number – 519-376-7230 or 1-800-265-9013.

The survey, launched in May 2015, aims to reveal opportunities for meaningful improvements in the way child support is collected and distributed across the province.
HER Grey Bruce compiled its initial results on October 21st and today reveals that among Ontario parents registered to receive their child support through the FRO:
● 79% report that their child support is overdue.
● 54% are owed 12 months or more in overdue child support.
● 76% are supporting two children (on average) on a single family income.
● 67% are owed $2000 or more in overdue child support, while 23% are owed $20,000 or more.
"These statistics are disheartening, although not entirely surprising," said Ruby Frank, HER Grey Bruce cofounder. "We heard from

Disbelief. That was the first reaction. Of course the soccer players kept playing when they heard the explosions because no one thought of a bomb.
Fear. Once the people in the stadium realized the two explosions were bombs, fear overwhelmed. Where should they go? Should they go out onto the field? Out of the stadium? With every step the spectators took they must have wondered if they were escaping or...
