coming-right-up-regFriday, May 29th, from 4PM to 6PM, The weekly Friday Afternoon Coffee House & Open Mic at The Bleeding Carrot, 945 Main Street, will again be hosted by Kelly Babcock. Bring your poems, your songs and your instruments or just an appetite to hear great local talent and sip coffee, tea, or fruit smoothies and join in the fun of this free event.


Friday, May29th, from 6PM to 8PM at The Frog Ponds, 209 8th Street East, Paul Danard presents Jazz Trio. There will be a short open mic from 6 'til 6:30 and then Paul, on bass, will be play jazz with Jake Scott on sax and Brian O ` Rourke on guitar. This is a "pay what you can" event.

What would you do if pictures of your naked body were maliciously spread over the internet? The hypothetical question seems extreme but in an age of ubiquitous camera phones and wifi networks this kind of cyber-bullying is shockingly common. The Owen Sound Academy of Performing Arts has been asking the question in theatres across Grey and Bruce counties with the original production 'Just Delete'.

Join us at 7:PM at the Ginger Press this Thursday (May 21) for the official book launch of Larry Jensen's book Some Are Songs: A Book of Words. Larry has combined the words from many of his songs with the words of many of his poems that just didn't become songs into this special self-published volume. Poet Rob Rolfe, who has collaborated with Larry recently in songs and poems about local history, will also be present.


Friday, May 22nd, in the Owen Sound Farmer's Market parking lot behind City Hall, the One World Festival presents the One Voice concert!
It's a perfect way to celebrate the diversity of our area with premium entertainers from many cultures, but one community. Show starts at 4PM and goes to 6PM, admission by donation, pay what you can.

worldfiddle-featureBring a chair down to the Queen's Park Bandshell this Saturday, May 16 and settle in for a great afternoon of music and dance to celebrate World Fiddle Day. There will be performances by the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra Catgut, Hoghide and the Skinner, and the Irish Dance Academy Dancers. Expect to be invited to join in workshops led by the Fiddlefern Dance players and stay for the open oldtime fiddle jam.

The celebration runs from1 until 4-ish and there is no charge to participate. Donations will be accepted for youth projects of the Georgian Bay Symphony.

coming-right-up-featThe duo River & Rock returns to the stage at the Frog Ponds Café this Saturday, May 16 from 12-1:30pm. Beaker Granger (RPR) and John Hume (Sportswriters) are two of the members of the five-piece band River & Rock and they join together to perform covers and original material. PWYC at the door.
