Summerfolk has announced the performers for this year’s Youth Discoveries finale concert, taking place May 28 at the Owen Sound Legion. Seven acts will perform for a panel of judges to win a spot on the lineup of the 47th Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival this August.
Youth Discoveries is the latest incarnation of Summerfolk’s youth mentorship program which began in the mid 2000s. The program offers musicians between the ages of 14 and 22 performance and mentorship opportunities through multiple stages of competition with the ultimate prize of performing at the festival.
The program was on hold due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021 but has returned in a hybrid format of virtual first round submissions and the in person finale May 28th.
"We are really excited to restart this programming and see what our youth have been doing for the last two years,” said Kimmer Trombley, GBFS Youth Discoveries Committee Member. “We can't wait to see young performers on stage performing again and we really hope that our community will come out to this free event to support our youth”.
The 2022 finalists come from across Grey and Bruce counties and as far away as Huntsville. The concert will feature solo performers and duos. The full line up includes Theresa Walsh, Makenzy Williamson, Briar Summers, Camryn Ruthven, Aniah Ruthven, Gabe Rossitter and Jake Corston.
The show is all ages and entrance is free, however donations are greatly appreciated. The doors will open at 6pm and performances begin at 7pm. Winners will be announced that evening. For more information about Summerfolk and the Youth Discoveries program, visit www.summerfolk.org.
