Council Chambers

- Anne Finlay-Stewart, Editor

Citing concerns for community safety and security, and in light of a very localized neighbourhood issue  - a "hot spot" - in the City, Mayor Ian Boddy called a special meeting of Owen Sound council this afternoon.

The single agenda item was to request the City Manager provide a report to council at their next meeting, September 14, identifying what enhanced safety measures can be put in place, what resources are needed and at what cost to the City, to deal with this unspecified neighbourhood issue.

The City Manager, Tim Simmonds, said he would be consulting with Owen Sound Police Chief Craig Ambrose and other community services in preparing the report.

Councillor Marion Koepke asked whether council could be assured that safety measures were in place to protect neighbours and children going to and from school. The City Manage replied emphatically "Yes."

The meeting was called because of the urgency of the issue, not to discuss the problem, but to request information about solutions.
