Georgian Bluffs voters meet council candidates (updated)

Georgian Bluffs voters fill Kemble-Sarawak United Church Tuesday night for
the Island View Drive and Area Ratepayers' Association's all-candidates meeting.

Georgian Bluffs voters filled the Kemble-Sarawak United Church as candidates for the Oct. 24 municipal election introduced themselves and their platforms Tuesday night.

More than 100 people were in the pews and standing around the edges of the historic church during the public all-candidates meeting hosted by the Island View Drive and Area Ratepayers' Association.

Mayoral candidates Dwight Burley, Sue Carleton and Scott Catto joined council candidates Christopher Azavedo, Colin Correia, Tobin Day, Cathy Moore Coburn, Mike Smith, Ryan Thompson and Rick Winters in four-minute introductions followed by written questions from the audience. Council candidate Isaac Shouldice sent regrets that he was unable to attend the meeting due to work commitments; deputy mayor candidate Grant Pringle has been acclaimed to the position.

Georgian Bluffs Mayor

The Mayor in Georgian Bluffs sits on both Township Council and County Council. The role of Mayor as head of council is:

to act as the municipality's chief executive officer;
to preside over council meetings such that business is carried out both efficiently and effectively;
to provide leadership to the council;
to provide information/recommendations to council on policies, practices, procedures;
to ensure transparency and accountability; and
to represent the municipality at official functions.

Georgian Bluffs Deputy Mayor

The Deputy Mayor in Owen Sound sits on both Township Council and County Council. The Deputy Mayor assists the Mayor in carrying out their powers and duties and act in the place of the Mayor when the Mayor is absent, refuses to act or declares a pecuniary interest or when the role is vacant.
