senior of the yearThe City of Owen Sound is pleased to announce Marie Mills as its 2018 Senior of the Year.

Marie has been an integral part of lawn bowling in our community serving on the board since 2000. Marie first became involved in lawn bowling in the early 1960's and has remained involved ever since. Nearing 30 years as a volunteer with Grey Bruce Health Services, Marie also volunteers her time with the United Church of Canada. When she isn't volunteering, Marie can be found knitting socks which she donates to a variety of organizations.

Nominated by the Roselawn Bowling Club, Marie has been credited for her creative ways of raising funds to help pay various expenses along with canvasing for sponsorships to support many programs.

The City's presentation of the award coincides with Seniors' Month in Ontario, which is held annually in June.

"Volunteers make a significant contribution in our community and we thrive on the generosity of many individuals," said Mayor, Ian Boddy. "It's nice to be able to show our appreciation of their efforts and time commitment."

The City of Owen Sound's Senior of the Year award is chosen through nominations submitted to the City's Community Services Committee. Ms. Mills will be honoured by Mayor Boddy and Owen Sound City Council prior to this evening's Council session at the Bayshore Community Centre.
