Owen Sound resident Gail McCartney has filed her nomination papers to stand for election to City Council. This is the first time McCartney has put her name forward for elected office but sees the next four years as being important in shaping the future of the city.
"I am running for city council because I believe we are at the point where though we have a vision for our future -to make that vision a reality, it's time to give better direction and focus to our efforts," said McCartney."While something like a freeze on development fees can spur growth in general, we have to make sure that the projects that go forward as a result make sense for our future. For our aging community we should be prioritizing low maintenance housing and bungalows. For those seeking to move to Owen Sound there is a shortage of condominium spaces and senior rentals. We need to address these gaps to make any plan work."
McCartney has worked for over 20 years selling Real Estate in Owen Sound and is President of the Realtors Association of Grey-Bruce Owen Sound.
