After a thorough recruitment and selection process, the City of Owen Sound is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Tim Simmonds as City Manager, effective May 11, 2020.
Mr. Simmonds brings more than two decades of municipal experience to the City of Owen Sound, along with most recently serving as the City of Vaughan’s Interim City Manager. In this role, he was responsible for all aspects of the municipal Administration, including responsibility for Economic Development, Corporate Partnerships, Strategic Initiatives, Intergovernmental Relations, Corporate Communications and Transformation, and Strategy. Mr. Simmonds has been a champion of Council’s Service Excellence priority to transform the City of Vaughan into a client-centric organization.
Mr. Simmonds will be replacing City Manager Wayne Ritchie, who is retiring after more than 30 years in public service. He held various senior leadership roles with the City and, most recently, as City Manager for the past five years.
The Mayor has the following to say about the hiring of the new City Manager:
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Mr. Tim Simmonds to our senior management team. On behalf of Council, we look forward to working closely with him as we continue to position Owen Sound as the place where you want to live. Mr. Simmonds brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role as well as a strong commitment to public service, which I know will serve us well. I also extend my sincere appreciation to City Manager Wayne Ritchie, who has been a truly great example of integrity, respect and dedication for our staff, citizens and Council. Mr. Ritchie stabilized our administration when it was needed and he was instrumental in pushing the City forward on many fronts. He has certainly left his mark on this City, and will be missed as he transitions into retirement.”
