polarplungeAgain this year our neighbours are Freezin for a Reason. The local Polar Plunge, organized by the Owen Sound Police to raise money for the Torch Run for local Special Olympians, will start at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 19 at Bayshore Community Centre. Be there in good time to enjoy all the fun – it's not like they are going to stay in all day!
This year it won't be a hole cut in the ice - participants will be running in from the shoreline north of the Bayshore. Bob Wallace of 92.3 The Dock will be leading his Dock Ducks in taking the plunge yet again. Like most teams, Bob says they'll be  dressed up in crazy costumes, but he is not revealing any details other than...

between-our-steps-march16First there was a random drip, drip, pause, and drip just outside the back door as the growing warmth in the sun melted the snow that still clung to the roof. At the end of the eaves trough spout, a rippled icicle grew as the water ran and then froze in the cold air. A tiny hole in the trough allowed another drip right onto the back step where the cold cement instantly turned the melt to ice, a hazardous sign of spring that I have come to expect.

No birds came to the feeder, which made me go and check. Chickadees and blue jays ate there all winter, but it had been emptied by the recent influx of juncos and sparrows. I refilled it for the migrators who will ...

Kruger-2Bring your friends this Thursday March 17 at 8 and enjoy the magnificent Kruger Brothers, an award winning string trio from Wilkesboro, North Carolina. This fundraising concert for the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce will be held at the Roxy Theatre in Owen Sound - tickets available online or at the door.

The Kruger Bothers are each uniquely talented musicians, and together play folk, Americana and bluegrass like you have never heard it. Doc Watson said - "The Kruger Brothers are just about as fine a band as I've ever played with. ... I love to play music with them."

The Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce has served over 220 families with end of life care over the past two years. The Ontario Ministry of Health only provides funding for nurses and personal care workers, and all the

other costs of operating this facility are handled through local fundraising.
