UGRR-ShowThis Friday December 4th the story of the Underground Railroad in Canada will be brought to life through pictures, stories and song for over 600 local students.

The Emancipation Festival & The Roxy Theatre have joined forces to co-present a lively, 50-minute interactive performance for students to tell the stories of Canada's Underground Railway and of this area's first Black settlers.

Owen Sound was the last northern terminal on the Underground Railroad, making our city part of the largest, and highly-secretive, North American freedom movement, that transported escaped slaves from...

"This is the perfect opportunity to think about yourself and what you would like to see under the tree from Santa," says organizer Camille Cole of Dr. Cobbler.

Hailing back to the days when stores were open on Friday night, this event will showcase boutique downtown businesses. The last event, "FIFTIES 1ST FRIDAY", was a brilliant success and many customers and business owners commented on

After the first snow last week, we all dug out our woolies to be ready for the inevitable. Because we all have a collection packed away somewhere. But what if you were arriving here in the midst of your very first Canadian winter? Cozy clothes would be at the top of your wish list.

Beth van Aalst is collecting both yarn and people who can knit, crochet and sew for her Helping Hands Craft Club. Van Aalst works at the base, and while she feels all the needs of the refugees will be well met there, she sees this as one way the community can offer a more personal welcome to Canada.

Ultimately, the Helping Hands Craft Club would like to make a bigger contribution to the community. They would like to

B-Mulroy-Christmas-AngelThe Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation's Christmas Angel Campaign is underway. This year, it aims to help surgical patients  at the Hospital by upgrading vital signs monitors in the Surgical Recovery Room and other departments in the Hospital.

"200 patients have surgery at the Hospital every week," said Paul Weitendorf, Executive Director of the Foundation. "A key tool of the staff in caring for these patients is the vital signs monitor. These monitors track heart function, breathing and other vital signs of recovering patients to ensure that all is well in the critical time immediately after surgery."

Through the Christmas Angel Campaign, the Foundation is hoping to raise $300,000.

"Many people don't realize that while the government funds the operation of hospitals, little funding is provided for...
