Standing together and embracing peace is the purpose of an evolving group in Owen Sound, which has started meeting on Tuesdays from 5:30 - 6 pm outside Owen Sound City Hall.
Last night there were 15 people who gathered, arms linked, to affirm the warmth, strength, courage and light which comes from standing together for peace in the darkness. More joined in through social media to express their support for peace in their communities and around the globe.
Initiated by Fiona McConachie-Anderson, a retired high school teacher living in Owen Sound, this is an open, multigenerational group who welcomes anyone and everyone to stand together and embrace peace. Please join us in Owen Sound, or consider starting a STEP towards peace in your community.

Statement from Deborah Barker, Executive Director
Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce
We are deeply saddened by the recent events in London Ontario where an 84-year-old woman has been charged in an attempted murder–suicide.
The woman is charged with giving her husband, who has dementia, an overdose of medication and then taking an overdose herself. Both survived.
We know that caregivers and family members who have a loved one with dementia can face levels of stress that seem overwhelming. It is important to know that help is available and people need not feel isolated or alone.
The Alzheimer Society of Grey-Bruce has a staff of trained, professional counsellors who are experienced at working individuals with dementia and with their family members and caregivers.
Help is as close as our telephone number – 519-376-7230 or 1-800-265-9013.

The developer of "The Sydenham" condominium project had visited local lawyer Doug Grace regularly over the years, and came to feel at home in our city. After building an international market research firm in the GTA, Pirie was ready to leave a physical legacy. The property for sale on the east side of the 9th Avenue bridge presented him with an opportunity to create "something significant in a landmark location in a great community".
"Owen Sound has been recognized as a top retirement community", Pirie said in an interview in his 8th Street sales office, "and I felt that the people who lived in its beautiful old homes would want to downsize into something of unique quality and style."
The city council and former Mayor Deb Haswell were supportive from the start –
