tree plantingWe're always happy to see our stalwart volunteers return when a major planting or tree care project is occurring. But we have to admit to some excitement at all the new workers this fall. At least 25 people of all ages joined us for the first time in planting and caring for trees at the Owen Sound Hospital. Yes, one intrepid toddler poured mulch!

We have planted about 425 trees and shrubs this fall - approximately 125 large trees and 300 smaller ones. Plus, the Meadow Crew worked hard, laying down the plastic in preparation for next Springs meadow plantings. All that remains is putting the forests to bed for the winter.

Because we have had so many industrious volunteers we will be finishing early with this week being our last. We will be mulching, staking, and other pre-winter activities on Thursday, October 22 and, if necessary, Saturday, October 24. In any case, Saturday will probably be a short morning.

We have also planted the Welcoming Garden at the entrance to the hospital this year. We have just recently finished planting the shrubs and spring bulbs. The last thing on our list for the garden this year is a fall clean up - no doubt sometime in the next couple of weeks. If you've volunteered for this particular project, watch your in-box for information. It's not too late to volunteer. If you can't help this fall, we have plans to install pollinator/native plant gardens along the Healing Path in the spring. You can sign up now for Spring 2021.
