breakfast clubOwen Sound and District Junior Optimist Club recently donated a total of $1000 shared between three local school Breakfast Clubs. They are now asking others to consider Breakfast Clubs in their holiday giving.

East Ridge Community School, Alexandra Community School and 0SDSS were the recipients of the club's good deed.

East Ridge Community School Breakfast Club coordinator of the past 8+ years , Elizabeth Charleton, notes that due to Covid, they are unable to generate funds in schools by selling hot lunches, or running snack booths at sports tournaments held at the school. They are also dealing with increased costs by needing to purchase per wrapped or individual serving sized items, and serving whole fruit only instead of previous buffet style platters.

Parker Davis, President of the Owen Sound and District Junior Optimist Club, echo’s Mrs. Charleton’s sentiment that breakfast club providers work hard to remain stigma free. “The volunteers do a great job of making all students feel good about using the Breakfast Club because it is so positive and welcoming”. He also notes “no one can learn or be their best when they are hungry, and the need seems to be very great these days”
