The West Grey Public Library has activities and services for patrons and visitors during this extraordinary end to an extraordinary year.
The public is welcome to make a meaningful contribution to a time capsule commemorating 2020, to be opened in 20 years’ time. Bring your poem, story, favourite saying, lock of hair from a pandemic haircut, photo of distanced activities over the year or another item that encapsulates the Year that Was to the Library, along with your name and the reason you think it should be included, by December 30 (the Library is closed December 31 to January 5). We’ll dedicate the time capsule in mid-January – keep an eye out for the announcement!
Featured for the holiday season is A Starry Night of Reading, in partnership with Durham’s The Colour Jar, where readers enter for a chance to win a Colour Jar gift certificate for $30 by entering the title of a book borrowed from the Library that they’ve completed, along with the title of the artwork in the Colour Jar’s window, on a starry night disk (you can get that at the Library)that will go on display at The Colour Jar. Draw takes place on December 22nd.
The Library’s snowshoe kits for adults and kids should be ready to slide by mid-January. The kits are available for loan for 3 weeks, and include trekking poles and a carry bag.
Also Children and youth can have fun with their Library, too!
- The monthly LEGO club lets young inventors post photos of their creations for a chance to win a gift certificate from Hanover’s Giddy Goblin
- A holiday scavenger hunt in December – physically distant, festive fun – with prizes!!
- Holiday Tinker Craft kit – get a great craft kit on loan from the Library and use the supplies to make a craft from the enclosed instructions – or make your own! Send photos for sharing!
The Library’s newsletter has now moved online, and patrons are urged to sign up so they don’t miss out on new programming and services.
Coming in January, watch for the launch of memory kits for persons living with dementia and those who care for them; a Zoom In! session on getting through the winter with a family member with dementia; and a Business Ready! session on communication.
Details and updates will be posted outside the branch, online through the Library’s Facebook account, and on the West Grey Library website www.westgreylibrary.com.
