summer funThis past year has looked like nothing we have ever seen before. Who would have thought over a year ago we would still be in the midst of a global pandemic? While the West Grey Parks and Recreation Department has seen many changes including many facility closures and re-openings. Rest-assured the West Grey team has been busy behind the scenes making the 2021 summer one to be remembered!

Still looking for things to do this summer? Check out our list below:

Summer camp
West Grey in partnership with Elephant Thoughts has combined forces to offer a joint summer camp! This Eco and Science based camp will be sure to keep campers wanting more day after day! Throughout the week campers will experience the beauty that West Grey has to offer on the 136 acres of property Riverstone Eco-retreat coupled with the wild and zany summer camp activities such as bubble soccer, live animals, swimming and water activities, and of course our favourite camp games.

This camp will operate weekly from July 5th through August 23rd for kids aged 6-12 and only cost $10 a day for campers. For more details of how to register click HERE. Spots are limited so be sure to sign up soon.

Swimming Lessons
We are excited to be returning to our regular offering of Swim Lessons and Aquatics Programming at both the Durham Wading Pool and Middle Dam for the 2021 season!

Greeted by smiling faces and small class sizes kiddos have the opportunity to learn a critical life skill in a blended aquatics program spanning both a traditional swimming pool environment and open water swimming lessons in the beautiful Saugeen River at the Middle Dam!

Registration is set to launch mid-June. Keep an eye on the Parks and Recreation page HERE for more information and how to register as details become available.

Want to Start a Summer Business?
The Summer Start Up Program (SSUP) is a program designed for youth looking to start a summer business. The program allows youth to access training and resources to start their business and earn up to $450 to get them going!

Any youth looking to apply to the SSUP program can check out the Saugeen Connects website HERE. Businesses looking to sponsor a local youth to start a business can find more information HERE.

Parks and Trails
Take in all the beauty West Grey and Grey County has to offer by exploring one of our many Green Spaces, Parks, or Trails. Please remember to practice physical distancing when accessing the various outdoor activities across West Grey and Grey County.
