The Owen Sound and District Junior Optimists are hosting an Indigenous Reconciliation event in Annan on June 30th at the Optimist Club of Sydenham and District’s Canada Day celebration.
The Junior Optimists’ “Building a Path to Reconciliation” event asks participates to reflect on the losses suffered by our Indigenous friends and neighbours caused by the residential schools tragedy, as they decorate a “Reconciliation Stone”. Stones from a nearby (private) shoreline can be decorated with a thoughtful message or image using acrylic paint markers or pressed wildflowers, e.g., Forget-me nots.
Owen Sound Junior Optimists will place the Reconciliation Stones at the Gitche Namewikwedong Garden on September 30th at the community’s Truth and Reconciliation Day / Orange Shirt Day ceremony.
Owen Sound Junior Optimists are also offering Orange Shirt pins for $5 with all proceeds going to the Orange Shirt Society.
The Owen Sound and District Junior Optimists hope to contribute in a positive way to Indigenous Reconciliation.
