Kelly Graham Legacy Award was granted to three local organizations offering programming to advance the health and wellbeing of young women in Grey Bruce this summer.

The Kelly Graham Legacy Endowed Fund was created in 2020 to continue Kelly’s work supporting the success of girls and women in our community. It’s open for Grey Bruce non-profits to apply to for a grant in the spring through the Community Foundation Grey Bruce website.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Kincardine & District wanted to offer Go Girls!, a Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds program for girls aged 12 – 14, but they needed some funding to make it happen. Executive Director Yolanda Ritsema tells us “This is a pilot project for our BBBS. The pandemic has created some unique challenges for girls that are coming of age in a time where healthy in person communication has been limited. This 7-week program hopes to change that!”

Launch Pad Youth Activity and Technology Centre is using their grant to launch an Intro to Automotive Project for Girls and Non-Binary Youth. Having a safe, judgement free space to learn skills including basic car maintenance and how vehicles run is a critical first step. “Once girls have the basics, then confidence to join more advanced and integrated classes comes easier.” says Nicholas Manglal-Ian, Executive Director.

Beyond High School is a new project from Clarksburg’s Ledge Leadership. Giving students the skills to live on their own is the first step on the path to success in adulthood. Program coordinator Melri Wright tells us that “preparing meals and eating together, budgeting your personal finances, managing your health…we’re giving young women these building blocks, along with the Highlands assessment of natural abilities and it’s empowering!”
“We’re thrilled that by offering the Kelly Graham Legacy Award grant, these three local projects are available for young women. We hope that every spring local non-profits with programs supporting girls and women will apply through our website.” Says Jen Legge, Grants and Donor Relations Coordinator at CFGB.
