Almost 400 runners and walkers participated in the 6th Annual Bayshore Race. $29,600 was
raised to support Grey Bruce Health Services' Hospital Campaign for improved cancer care at the Owen Sound
Regional Hospital. The Race took place on Sunday morning, starting and finishing at the Bayshore Community
Centre.
Top finishers in the 10k wereCameron MacDonald of Owen Sound with a time of 36:21 and Janet Gamble of
Owen Sound who finished in 38:47. Michael Konstantopoulos of Toronto was 2nd and Robert Campbell of Toronto was 3rd for the men. Anne Byrne of Toronto was second for the ladies followed by Paula Lockyer of Meaford. In the 5k race, Wiarton's Steven Nadjiwan was the overall winner with a time of 15:46 while Christiane Konstantopoulos of Toronto won the women's in 18:18. Riley Jacobs-Gamble, age 9 from Owen Sound was the first boy in the Kids' 1k, with a time of 4:27. The winning girl was 7 year old Olivia Latham at 5:11. Olivia Barwell of Oshawa was the fastest 10k Power Walker with a time of 56:16 followed by Brendan Mulroy of Owen Sound finishing in 1:11:30.
"Thanks to all runners and walkers, all our great sponsors and more than 70 volunteers who helped make the 6th Annual Bayshore Race a success," said Race Director, Greg Nicol.
10k Power Walker Anne Robertson, from Owen Sound collected the most pledges, bringing in $630. Race proceeds support the Hospital Campaign, an $11.4 million fundraising effort to improve cancer care at the
Owen Sound Regional Hospital. Funds raised will help create a new cancer care unit on the 5th floor of the
hospital which will be about 40 % larger, with more privacy for patients, two large chemotherapy treatment areas,doctors' offices, spacious waiting areas and a dedicated pharmacy for preparing oncology medications. Funds will also purchase a new CT scanner, interventional radiology suite and more.
