Please indulge me as I post a nostalgic nature story.
My grandmother was born in County Meath Ireland and lived at the Irish Block. She passed in 1956 when I was 2. My mother had a wild rambling rose planted at our family home in Owen Sound. She informed me it was my grandmother's rose transplanted from my father's family farm.
When I became interested in plants and nature I looped one of the canes from this rose into the ground and back up to the arbour. I left it there till the next spring. The part of the cane under the ground had rooted so I transported it to my home and proceeded to grow "Gramma's rose" there. Subsequently I took a piece of this rose every time I moved.
I secured a rooted piece of this rose and flew with it to Vancouver Island where I had a planned visit with my sister . She planted it on the Island where it has thrived for over 30 years. My sister's health declined so she had a piece of the rose sent to her son's home where it once more found a home.
My gramma whom I never met left a natural legacy we enjoy. The featured picture is the rose at one of the locations I have lived. ( Not the best photo but it will do!)
