Wearing Hunter Orange in all forests is an essential safety measure as long gun deer hunting season approaches, cautions Bruce County.
Trail users in Bruce County are reminded that long gun (rifle) season for deer hunting is Monday, Nov. 7 to Sunday, Nov. 13.
Hunters and recreational users should take steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Everyone using County forests must ensure they are visible and must be aware that others may be nearby.
Trail users should:
- Avoid using trails from dawn and dusk, and anytime that visibility is limited
- Wear hunter orange (hat, vest, scarf, etc.)
- Avoid beige, brown, white, or green clothing
- Put hunter orange on your pets as well
- Keep pets on a leash
Hunters should:
- Never shoot unless they are absolutely sure of their target, and absolutely certain of what lies beyond the target
- Avoid hunting along trails and in areas with active trail use
- Be aware that you may be sharing the forest with other hunters and trail users
