Teimojin Tan Talk
Local doctor Teimojin Tan survived 63 days on his own in the Canadian wilderness on season 9 of the History Channel's hit reality series ALONE. Join us Saturday, Dec. 3, for an extraordinary talk with Tan which focuses on his experiences and what it takes to survive in the wilderness.
Tan, 31, works as a general practitioner with Grey Bruce Health Services and in the emergency rooms at hospitals in Wiarton, Lion’s Head, and Southampton.
His dream is to teach Survival Medicine internationally while working as a physician in underserved indigenous communities and being involved in community development projects.
Teimojin is a rare human being, with the capacity for deep self reflection, philosophy, practical calculation, and intense commitment. As a doctor, soldier, and survivalist he has lived on the edges of life and death in hospitals, on front lines, and engulfed in wilderness. Maybe he has come closer to the truths we all seek in our lives, or maybe he has encountered and conjured ever greater mysteries. It is our honour to host him for a revelatory and inspiring talk – one I know Tom Thomson himself would have loved to attend.
– Aidan Ware, Director and Chief Curator

nicholas x bent: isolation of wildness
October 22nd - January 28th
In isolation of wildness, nicholas x bent offers a visual discussion about the last of the hedgerows and wetlands in Grey Bruce region. His photographs are captured in motion in a variety of ways, including from the window of a moving vehicle or while walking along a field. The resulting monochromatic images exalt a hand-drawn, ephemeral quality that captures the spirit of the subject matter and acts as a reminder of their vulnerability and impermanence.

Showing 55
July 26th - January 21st
In commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery, this exhibition investigates the Gallery’s collection through the lens of time and legacy. Featuring 55 art works from the collection, each one representing the year that they were created from 1967 to 2022, the exhibition offers a rare and intriguing glimpse into the context and times in which these pieces were selected, broadly reflecting curatorial priorities through five decades, and more singularly providing insight into the depth of generosity of donors and acquisition funders who helped to build this nationally significant art collection. While celebrating the past, the exhibition also compels us to consider the future and how the works we collect as an art museum, will build knowledge, contribute to social good, and open the landscape for new ideas and exploration.

The Great Canadian Art Fraud Case:
The Group of Seven and Tom Thomson Forgeries
In May 2016, Jon S. Dellandrea came into possession of a box of the last effects of an obscure artist, William Firth MacGregor. The contents of the box chronicled a major, and long forgotten, trial involving forgeries of the art of Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven.
The Great Canadian Art Fraud Case takes readers back to 1962, a time when forgeries were turning up on gallery walls, in auction houses, and (unwittingly) being hung in the homes of luminaries across Canada. Inspector James Erskine, enlisting the help of A.J. Casson, the youngest living member of the Group of Seven, set out to discover where the forgeries were coming from. Fifty years later, Dellandrea follows Erskine’s hunt to the end, uncovering the masterminds behind the forgeries.
