The Grey Bruce Ontario Health Team’s Community Council plays an important role in shaping the future direction of the local health system. The Grey Bruce Ontario Health Team (GB OHT) is seeking up to four new members to join its Community Council, also known as the Grey Bruce OHT Patient, Client, Resident, Family and Caregiver Advisory Council.

Together and as individuals, Council members bring a rich perspective based on the diversity of our community through their age, gender, background, culture and their own health service experiences. This volunteer opportunity asks members to join in monthly Council meetings, often held on-line. The chance to participate in specific OHT projects or working groups is also available.

The Grey Bruce OHT are a group of organizations, healthcare providers and community members committed to working together to improve patient outcomes by coordinating all aspects of health promotion, disease prevention and integrated care as a unified team. For patients, families and caregivers, this will mean easier access to services, more effective communications with providers and better health outcomes.

“We see the role of the Community Advisory Council to advance patient engagement and patient-centered care in all services provided by the Grey Bruce OHT,” says Barbara Horne, GB OHT Community Council Co-Chair.

Early work of the Grey Bruce OHT will focus on seniors’ health and people living with mental health and addictions, but members of the OHT Community Council do not need to have direct experience in those areas. Most important is to build a team of council members who help bring a diverse point of view and who can help represent the wide range of communities across Grey Bruce.

Visit the Grey Bruce OHT website to learn more about how to join its Community Council.

The Grey Bruce Ontario Health Team (GB OHT) is part of the province of Ontario’s health system transformation, initiated in 2019 and now with 54 OHTs in various stages of development. At maturity, OHTs will be clinically and financially accountable for delivering a full and coordinated continuum of care for our entire attributed population within Grey Bruce. The Grey Bruce OHT will apply a health equity, quality improvement, population health, and co-design approach to its OHT priorities. There are currently twenty-seven Grey Bruce OHT partners actively working together on system transformation, with an open process for any new partner organizations to join in on this collaborative work.
