We are very excited to announce that a Children’s Choral Composition and Singing Workshop for children ages 6-18 will be part of Choir Camp 2023! It will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 2:30. to 4:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (Owen Sound), the same location as Choir Camp 2023.

The workshop will be led by Fiona Evison (Georgian Bay Children’s Choir, Western University), Linda Hawkins (Georgian Bay Children’s Choir), Sherryl Sewepagaham (Cree/Dene artist and music educator), Danielle Sirek (Western University and singer in the Canadian Chamber Choir), Julia Davids (director of the Canadian Chamber Choir), and select Canadian Chamber Choir members, who will sing and improvise with the workshop attendees.

At the workshop, children will:

  • Participate in community singing

  • Practise vocal techniques

  • Learn a traditional Indigenous stick song and activity

  • Create a short choral piece based on the region’s rivers

  • Design and perform their own percussion accompaniment from Georgian Bay materials (pebbles, driftwood, etc.)

The registration fee for children attending only this workshop is $10 (bursaries are available). You can register using our online form.

Please forward this to any families with singers age 6-18 you think might be interested in attending this one-day workshop.
