The Bluewater Association for Lifelong Learning recently unveiled its exciting slate of talks for the 2016 – 2017 season, which include four series of lectures. Details may be found in the new brochure, mailed out to members last month, and available at libraries and other gathering places throughout Grey-Bruce, and online at www.bluewaterlearns.com. Beginning September 8, Series One is titled "Peace: Its Meaning and Achievements" (to October 13.) An unwavering beacon for peace in the world, Project Ploughshares provides representatives to share their expertise regarding the complex and ever-changing realities that are part of the challenges constantly confronting the pursuit of peace in the world.
Series Two, "The Poet and the Astronomer Seek Meaning in an Expanding Universe", (October 20 to November 24), will be presented by Doug Cunningham who contends that "it is only when science, concerned with 'knowing' and poetry, concerned with 'feeling' converge, do we come closer to a complete picture of ourselves and our place in the universe."
"Beauty and Belief: Art and Philosophy in Eastern Cultures", Series Three, a 6-part series presented by Patricia Campbell (January 12 – February 16, 2017) explores the connection between art and spirituality in South and East Asia, mainly with Hindu and Buddhist traditions, and also uncovers the intriguing links between art, ritual, philosophy and spirituality.
Series Four, "Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven" (March 2 – April 6, 2017) is the final six-part series and provides insight into "local hero" Tom Thomson and The Group of Seven, Canadian painters who initiated the first major Canadian artistic movement.
All lectures in the 2016-2017 season are scheduled for Thursday mornings, 10 a.m. to noon, in Owen Sound at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Register for one or more lecture series at the cost of $45. per series. When you register for the Season Bundle", i.e. all four lecture series at once, the cost is $150. BALL membership is included in the registration fee for each lecture series.
