The Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce is set to begin providing patient care in Chapman House on June 1, but before patient care happens on-site, Chapman House will become the focus of a community celebration.
"The construction of Chapman House was made possible through the generosity of people across the region," said volunteer Board Chair Rob Cordell. "And because of their commitment and support for our new home, we wanted to make sure that we got a chance to show as many people as possible what they helped us build. But we wanted to do so before we began the process of admitting patients, so that their care is not disrupted.""
Chapman House will offer expert end-of-life care to as many as eight patients at a time and new features at the Hospice will greatly enhance patient and family care on site.
"For almost four years, we've served Grey and Bruce from our temporary location," said Executive Director Scott Lovell. "Our team is excited to soon be providing our service in a space purpose-built for the care we provide and yet have this wonderful home-like feel."
Construction began in April of 2016, and its opening comes nearly on the four-year anniversary of the first patient admission to the Hospice in its temporary location.
"Chapman House was made possible by a long list of people committed to hospice palliative in Grey Bruce," said Rob. "This really is a community hospice and a community celebration."
