The Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound presented the City with their fourth installment of $20,000 to support the Kiwanis Sk8 & Bike Park.
On Saturday, August 19th, Kiwanis President Susan Davey and incoming President Don Sweatman presented the cheque to Deputy Mayor Arlene Wright. Also on hand for the presentation was Councillor Jim McManaman and Owen Sound Police Chief Bill Sornberger.
In 2013, the Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound announced a major donation of $100,000 to facilitate the construction of the Sk8 & Bike Park at Victoria Park and the park was officially opened in June 2014. The Sk8 & Bike Park is a free and accessible opportunity for youth to exercise and remain active with exciting ramps and equipment in a safe and open environment. The cheque presentation coincided with the Owen Sound Police Services 4th Annual Sk8 Jam, where youth of all ages and abilities were able to participate in an open freestyle jam and judged skate runs.
The Kiwanis Club has an incredible legacy in Owen Sound and around the world. The Club supports many events and projects in Owen Sound including the Santa Claus Parade, the Kiwanis Festival of Music, the Kiwanis Soccer Complex and the Harrison Park Kiwanis Accessible Playground. Their dedication to providing opportunities for youth development is the centre of their mandate.
