This year, GivingTuesday falls on November 28, and many charities and non-profits in Grey Bruce want you to think about the impact a gift can have on your community.
GivingTuesday is a global day of giving, started in Canada in 2013 by The GIV3 Foundation and CanadaHelps. More than 4,200 Canadian charities and businesses have joined the movement so far. Just as Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season, GivingTuesday is the opening day of the giving season. While Black Friday and Cyber Monday are a boost to the local economy, GivingTuesday is a shot in the arm for community participation.
This year, the 5th year for Canadian participation in GivingTuesday, there is a groundswell of activity being organized by local groups across the country. Two leading philanthropic organizations, Community Foundation Grey Bruce and United Way Bruce Grey, wish to spread awareness of GivingTuesday in Grey and Bruce counties towards a deeper level of engagement between charities, businesses and local residents.
The impact of GivingTuesday goes well beyond charitable donations, inspiring generosity in all its forms. On November 28th and throughout the holiday giving season, Canadians celebrate giving in whatever way is meaningful for them – volunteering their skills, giving blood, holding clothing drives, helping at a local food bank, talking with their kids about philanthropy, or spreading the word on social media. Consider joining the giving movement on November 28 – make a commitment to generosity.
