Children who grow up in stressful and chaotic environments at home, or who are impacted by peer pressure and bullying in the community, can suffer serious negative impacts that affect healthy development. Kids adapt and learn how to cope, but the strategies they used in their youth no longer work as they grow up, and over time may lead to emotionally destructive behavior and harmful relationships with others.
Grey Bruce Health Services is hosting a public meeting to help parents, families, and care givers recognize the destructive coping strategies that evolve in adolescents and adults who suffer from this type of developmental trauma.
Psychiatrist Dr. Benjamin Loveday will discuss what families can do to defend against the unwanted effects of chaos and abuse on their children. He will also help adults understand and begin to heal from their own experiences of childhood trauma.
Date: December 7, 2017
Time: 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Place: Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, 1900 3rd Ave E, Owen Sound
Rutherford Room
Dr. Loveday worked as an inpatient psychiatrist for the regional adolescent program at St. Joseph's Health Care in London, Ontario, and is now working in the community with adolescents and their families.
All are welcome at this event. Parking will be free.
