bruce-peninsulaThe 10th Annual Sources of Knowledge Forum is slated for May 4-6 in Tobermory at the Community Centre. This year's theme is "The Future of the Saugeen Peninsula".

Friday afternoon's free public session features an alternative transportation and energy exhibition with roof top solar companies, information on net zero homes, and a chance to see and ride electric vehicles. Market vendors will be on hand with their local produce and gift items. Presentations will be made by the Plug n' Drive Electric Vehicle Discovery Centre, Sunfish Solar, Blackline Power, the University of Toronto Human-Powered Vehicle Group, and others.

The formal Sources of Knowledge Forum begins Friday evening with wine and cheese, and the famous Stephen Scharper Film Festival. Speakers on the "Future of the Saugeen Peninsula" begin Saturday morning with Chippewas of Nawash Chief Greg Nadjiwon, followed by speakers on community energy and transportation options; community economic development models; and climate change scenarios for our area. Saturday evening's keynote dinner features well-known Environment Canada meteorologist, David Phillips – his talk is entitled, Tomorrow's Weather Forecast: Warmer, Wetter, and Wilder.

Program Chair, Brian McHattie says he is particularly excited to learn about a tourism project from western Quebec, including a presentation from Helen Patterson and colleagues from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM). One of four panel speakers, Ms. Patterson will speak to the FCM's innovative Stronger Together toolkit, designed to link Indigenous and Municipal community economic development partners. Mr. McHattie notes: "With our new Northern Bruce Peninsula Sustainable Tourism Strategy, we have an exciting opportunity to work with the Saugeen Ojibway Nation on joint tourism projects, and can learn much on how to be successful from our national leaders from FCM".

Registration for the Forum is open now at $100 per person (including the delicious Saturday evening dinner). The first 10 students registering are free for the Forum talks, needing to pay $35 for the dinner.
